Five Reasons Your Family Needs PointerWare Video Conferencing

As the chief Luddite and bottle washer on the PointerWare team, I’ll admit I’ve been a little slower than the others to really “get” the implications of out new video conferencing feature that’s coming out this month.  But as we get closer to the release and I’ve gotten my hands on the Beta, I’m getting excited.  Really excited.

So, for any fellow Luddites out there, let me share just a few of the ways that adding video conferencing to our already remarkable software for seniors is going to improve the quality of life for seniors and their families.

  1.  It’s more intimate than a letter or a phone call.
Some studies suggest that 93% of communication is non-verbal.  Video conferencing lets you know what they’re really saying.
  2.  Hello peace of mind – a picture is worth a thousand words.
It’s one thing for your mom to tell you she’s okay.  It’s quite another to see for yourself.  When distance keeps you from being there, you can still get a sense of how someone’s doing by looking at them and their surroundings in the background – something you can’t always gauge from a phone call.
  3. Bridge the generation gap.
PointerWare’s video conferencing connects kids and their grandparents.  Whether they’re sharing stories about their day, listening to Grandpa read a bedtime story or hearing Grandma tell them that they have Uncle Ben’s ears, your kids will have a relationship with their grandparents that may not have been possible without video conferencing.
  4. Eat family dinners together.
Or breakfast, or lunches.  Not only can you use video conferencing to include seniors in the day-to-day happenings in your life, you can ensure they’re taking care of themselves.
  5.  Safety first.
One of our beta testers said she loved video conferencing for its security feature.  When we asked what she meant, she told us about her mother who lived in two hours away.  If her mom were expecting a repairman, she’d get her to turn on video conferencing so our beta tester could keep an eye on things.  It made both of them feel safe.
